It’s a Post + Proper profile, take 2!
Q: You are one ½ of a quickly growing business and a mom of two young girls. How do you keep it all together?
Well, I’m certainly glad I have you fooled! Ha. Kidding! I try to keep it all into perspective as best as I can. I have two girls that need my love, attention, and guidance and I have a company that needs the same things. When I’m at work, I have the luxury of being 100% dedicated to my job, knowing that the girls are cared for. We’ve had the same nanny (who I worship) for the past 4 years and she runs my household as if I was there. When I’m at home, I’m 100% dedicated to my family. It’s almost never easy, but I try to do the very best I can.
I also subscribe to this idea that was introduced to be through an article by Randi Zuckerberg. She calls it the “entrepreneur’s dilemma.” In a nutshell she asks how can you be an entrepreneur, have a family, have a social life, be an active member of your community, have time for fitness etc. The answer is, you can’t. EEK. So be good at 3 of these things. I’ve adapted this “be good at 3 things” notion on a daily basis and I allow it to change each day. Family and business are always in my top 3. I switch it out daily based on what is going on that day. Sometimes my top 3 is rounded out with community, some days it’s spending time with friends, some days with honoring time for myself.
What was the path that led you to Post + Proper?
I’ve been blessed to have had a pretty consistent and successful career in media advertising and sales. After working for big companies most of my career, I started to see that there is so much a smaller organization can offer SMBs. Not only to provide more specific strategies to each business but also to do it in a very intimate way. Feeling like our clients are truly part of our business, taking the extra time to get to know our clients, their businesses, their families, their visions can only help create solutions that work for them. That attention is what I wanted to provide and was the catalyst to launch the business.
What is your favorite thing about your job and working with your clients?
I feel like it’s the most cliché thing to say, but our clients feel like our family. They really do. We enjoy our meetings with our clients and keep them as people at the heart of everything we do for them. Having the best business partner in the world doesn’t hurt the day to day at all either. Abby is the yin to my yang and our personalities blend so well together. I couldn’t imagine going through this crazy ride with anyone else.
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be?
I love to travel. My husband and I have been to so many amazing places together; Paris, Rome, Costa Rica, Barbados to name a few. One of my bucket lists spots is Bora Bora. When I was in college I saw a brochure (yeah a brochure – actual paper) with those over the water bungalows and I was like “yup, I’m going there someday!” I hope to be able to do that!
Wine or beer?
SERIOUSLY!?! Red wine, all day and all night! Ha. Ok, that sounded aggressive but I love my reds so much. There isn’t a Pinot Noir that I’ve ever said no to. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Sonoma and Napa several times and recently had the opportunity to visit Willamette Valley, Oregon where they produce some of the most amazing Pinot Noir’s I’ve ever tasted. If I had to pick one bottle (although super mass produced) that you will always see in my home, it’s the La Crema Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley. So smooth, fruity and delish.
