A Simple Social Media Audit
The first thing that we do for any of our social media clients is an audit. This in depth process allows for us to establish where your strategy is to-date, streamline that process and of course make a road map for where you want to go. Although we can’t divulge our entire audit process, we want to give you a few tips that will help you get off on the right foot with social media.
1. Determine who has access/right to your social pages.
It’s imperative that your social “voice” remains consistent. Who are you as a brand? Who are you targeting & what is your message. If you can’t answer that…this is your first assignment. Figure out how to keep your social voice consistent throughout all of your pages. Having several people post content dilutes that consistent brand voice and leaves the door open for your social message to go too many different directions.
2. Is your information correct & updated?
This may make you laugh, but you would be surprised how many businesses have the wrong URL on their social pages, the wrong hours, incorrect contact information or an outdated description of your business. Take the time to update this information across all of your pages and as the business changes…so should this information.
3. Be aware of the content that you are posting.
Google search “social media business page fails” and your search engine results page can give you an idea of what we are talking about here. Before you post your content (even if it’s scheduled) get a pulse on what is trending and what is going on around the world. A favorite would be to not ever use a devastating natural disaster to promote your business. American Apparel offering 20% off to anyone living in that state that we affected by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Yup, just want these people needed when they lost their homes….20% off! #notsmart #beaware
4. Watch your competitors on social media.
According to AdEspresso.com we agree keeping an eye on your competitors helps you not only monitor what’s going on in your industry through their eyes, but you can get a pulse as to how they are interacting with their customer base. What contact is the audience engaging with and how can you take that information and make it new, different & better on your page.
5. Call for help!
